A new 1400 place student accommodation development comprising seven new blocks housing student accommodation and ancillary services, including a café, a restaurant, a laundry, a gymnasium and workshops. The design has been completed to RIBA Stage 3 based on a prefabricated lightweight steel structure solution and MZA worked closely with the lightweight steel structure specialists to ensure the lightweight structure and building envelope achieved the required thermal performance. We were also able to add significant value through our experience of modern methods of construction (MMC) for building services, developing a rationalised services installation to maximise the repetition and off-site pre-fabrication, resulting in a shorter programme duration and lower risk of defects in the completed installation.

The proposals include BREEAM excellent and, drawing on the principles of the international WELL Accreditation, the campus will have many in-built features to enhance occupant wellbeing, such as enhanced air quality through the ventilation systems. To support the ambitious net-zero carbon targets, energy efficient systems, such as air source heat pump technology, will be deployed throughout the build.

The project is due to complete in 2024.
